Unfortunately, NO, a divorce acquired by Filipino spouses abroad is not valid and has no legal effect in the Philippines.


This is because it is Philippine laws that governs matters affecting family rights, duties, or the status of Filipino citizens even though living abroad.


Thus, since divorce is not allowed under Philippine laws, a foreign divorce acquired by Filipino citizens abroad has no legal effect in the Philippines. In the eyes of Philippine laws, they are still legally married.
